Multiple stage floors which spin, rotate, lift up, drop down as far as five storeys, swap out—with an independently-spinning outer ring which can move faster, slower, oppositely—all while the audience is watching the scene in front of them take place. Why, that would be easily explored  backstage at the Olivier Theatre in London.



Also, you know those boring fly galleries in the humdrum old proscenium stage theaters? The ones with a cyclorama group if you’re lucky? How about trading those out for 127 point-hoists that can move all sorts of ways independently or in groups?

The National Theatre has videos on just about every aspect of theater—stagecraft, writing, production, directing—oh, just about everything you can think of. One can get lost for days in it.

Be careful you don’t forget to do anything else, though. Those scenes aren’t going to write themselves.
